Thomas Jefferson
by: Henry Childs Merwin
This was a very informative book. Lots of information that's not in our history books. The one thing I found most interesting was that the Constitution on The United States had been modified by the early congress before being excepted. I had a hard time with this book because the Author would change time lines. One moment your reading about Thomas Jefferson in 1800 then it goes back to 1790. I would recommend this to any one who would like to find out more information about our founding fathers.
One thing that surprised me was that Mr. Jefferson sent troops to help out George Washington against the British. Also that Mr. Jefferson did not want to separate from the Crown. As he grew in age, he no longer wanted to leave his beloved home that he had built.
In the book it only mentioned this once, however Thomas Jefferson had promised "When I first entered on stage of public life I came to a resolution never to engage, while in public office, in any kind of enterprise for the improvement of my fortune, nor to wear any other character than that of a farmer. I have never departed from it in a single instance;"
In multiple bills Thomas Jefferson tried to abolish slavery, Timing was not right for the people of early America to accept this.
After reading this I would like to see the home that Thomas Jefferson built in Monticello for myself. It is still there today owned by his descendants.

Where is Monticello?
